Great Hamilton Chocolate Train Wreck Celebration & Beer Release
September 26, 2015 @ 12:00 pm - 4:00 pm
We are excited to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of one of our favorite local historical events. In September 1955, a freight train carrying a load of Nestle chocolate derailed from the Ontario and Western Railroad in Hamilton just yards from where our brewery is currently located. No one was hurt, no one was convicted of a crime, and the event is celebrated in Hamilton to this day.
Every year, to commemorate this event, we brew a single batch of The Great Chocolate Wreck: an imperial chocolate stout brewed with cocoa nibs & cocoa powder. This year, join us at the Tap Room for a celebration including the release of The Great Chocolate Wreck Imperial Chocolate Stout by the glass & bottle. This is the Wreck’s 4th year in production, and is part of Good Nature’s Artist Series—A Series of specialty ales created by Co-Founder, Matt Whalen, to showcase GNB’s commitment to quality, locally-inspired beers. Labels for these bottles are chosen from designs submitted by local artists
From noon until 4pm both days:
– Enjoy Chocolate Paired Beer Flights All day both days until we sell out
– Enjoy decadent chocolate baked goods from local Flour & Salt Bakery for sample and sale
– Check out a Historical photo Display of the Wreck
– Take a guided walk (or you can drive) to the original Wreck Site courtesy of our Town historian and also our local Wreck Lore Aficionado, Art Zimmer (Walk leaves from the Tap Room at 1:30PM both days).
