Join us at the Good Nature Tap Room at 8 Broad Street in Hamilton on Saturday 9/24 and Sunday 9/25 for the annual Great Hamilton Chocolate Train Wreck Celebration and beer release.
Every year, we brew The Great Chocolate Wreck: a 10% ABV imperial chocolate stout brewed with cocoa nibs & cocoa powder, to commemorate the day In September 1955, when a freight train carrying a load of Nestle chocolate derailed from the Ontario and Western Railroad in Hamilton just yards from our brewery. No one was hurt, no one was convicted of a crime, and we celebrate this event in Hamilton to this day. This year, we will be bottling this special brew in 375ml bottles and introducing a completely new label design. Fewer than 80 cases will be available for sale. This will be The Great Chocolate Wreck’s 5th year in production, and it never lasts long!
In addition to the release of this year’s The Great Chocolate Wreck in bottles and on draft, we will offer Chocolate Paired Beer Flights all day both days, or until we sell out. These decadent paired flights will feature chocolate from local vendors and we will donate the net proceeds from their sale to the Hamilton Public Library. The Good Nature Tap Room is family friendly, and we have draft root beer on tap. Each day at 2PM, there will be a guided walk (or you can drive) to the original Chocolate Wreck Site courtesy of our Town historian and also our local Wreck Lore Aficionado, Art Zimmer. Our celebration will also feature a historical photo display of the Wreck courtesy of our Village Historian and the Hamilton Public Library’s Local History Museum.
Plans are underway for an expanded celebration next year at our new brewery currently under construction in Hamilton at 1727 Route 12B South.
